If you are shopping in the cars market I have just the site 4 you! This site is so advanced and futuristic it’s more like Web 3.0 than 1.0! Get it all at Ling Scars (and don’t miss the one-o-a-kind site map)!
Thank you Johnny Gilbert, Wheel ‘O Fortune, Jeopardy and all my favorite webmasters out there for KEEPING IT REAL.

HI. WELL WE’RE EARLY FOR SOME AND LATE FOR OTHERS. BUT LET’S REFLECT ON THIS YEAR’S CAPS LOCK DAY.
I’ve always had a strong opinion on the issues surround CAPS. Email, chat, and forum people call it SHOUTING, and frankly it does read loud and harsh. But CAPS are better, in almost every instance, for design. Take a look around you… what do you see? CAPS! Right? Look at the street sign, your tin of mints, a map, books, album covers: ALL CAPS. On that latter item, it reminds me all songs should be in caps so I don’t have to differentiate “STARS ON FIRE” from “Stars on Fire.” Just look at any old 45 and you see them again, CAPS CAPS CAPS.
Title Case Has Its Place. And for internet talking you generally want to go mixed case. But lest we never shun the UPPER CASE, the full proof, traditional, authoritative case. It’s the Helvetica of cases really. Let’s see some TOLERANCE out there.
Final note: all lowercase case is the lamest style of type and should never appear.

Back in the old days… back when men were men and kids were kids, McDonald’s playgrounds were something special…
And yes, I know photos would be nicer than lame handmade gifs. Sorry I don’t have those. Ah well.
So begins one of the most fascinating 1.0 pages I have found in a while. Beloved McDonalds playground equipment faithfully and lovingly crafted in awesome handmade gif. The memory of their creator, Frank15, is astounding in his recollections of the classic play areas, even includes detailed and dated maps of various locations.
Amazing. (Check out these original McD playground materials and compare.)

Back before HTML browsers got standardized (BORING) companies like IE and Netscape would introduce cool specialized tags, the most famous of which were <blink> and <marquee>. If you surrounded words in these tags they would either BLINK! or
SCROLL LIKE A MARQUEE across the page.
Try viewing
this page
in Firefox
to see all the action!
For whatever reason, scores of know-it-all HTML designers decided to hate these awesome tags, and dissuade everybody from using them. Below, one of those responsible for the downfall of the awesome html tags ever:

Mad congrats to Nathan Toastytech for 10 long hatey years ranting about how much IE sucks. With Firefox & Safari & Modzilla around for so long, everybody is typing “oh yeah I hate internet explorer.” But dude Nathan has hated it A LOT and for A LONGER than ANYONE. (I bet.)
Nathan is the IE-Hater Supreme! And look! He loves Firefox and Modzilla!! Plus you can explore the webmaster’s awesome original artworks and even some funny!

This guy founded HowThingsWork.com which is a really popular site for figuring out how stuff works. What’s cool about this is, clearly, Marshall has a ton of $$$ but still refuses to hire fancy schmancy web developers. True belief & adherence to the ONE POINT OH spirit like this is a rare and beautiful thing to witness.
Don’t Miss:

One of the good things about good 1.0 sites is when there is A LOT of cool stuff. Some web nerd put a link up to a Tradmark Violation page where I discovered the deeply leveled infinitely complex world of Tabberone (pronounced tabber-1).
This site has everything from loads of copyright issues, to awesome fabrics for sale, funny bumperstickers, and of course a kittie korner with kitten photos!
But most important. You do NOT want to cross tabberone or your gonna get the NorthStar / Re-Bath treatment. The Tabber1 internet beatdown!!!

We just want to take this moment to urge our readers at the 1.0i<3u charity cause. The guys at BadAssParty.com need our help. Basically explained, the charity is “a couple dozen working class slobs, originally from Michigan, of varying ages (all over 21) who are just trying to have one last really memorable party together.” Let’s get donating people, this bad ass party NEEDS to happen! I already submitted my party staff application so maybe I’ll see YOU in michigan when they figure out where its gonna be.
Have you ever wondered, What’s [insert persons name here] been up to? How have they been? Have they changed? We have asked ourselves those questions, and we havn’t been able to get together for years. This may well be our last chance to answer those questions for ourselves.
You can help make it all possible. For this we will hold you in the highest reguard, and We will drink a toast to every person who donates to us. If funding allows it we will be able to webcast the toast of us thanking You!
We at 1.0 i <3 you truly believe in this party cause and fully endorse this charity. Please give today; even one dollar helps people. Maybe you can least find it in your heart to buy some guy named j a beer.

i was lookin for lyrics to the song Two Hangmen by mason profffit. and i find this spite site-a gem from the 1.0 days, sort of a lost cause and a sad story. a digital recreation of the 60s tune, maybe we should right new lyrics to this guy’s story!

“The best clean humor on the Internet” brought 2u by Robert Bryon. featuring prominently the Orig AT&T Story but I like the genius and hilarious Postcards-O-Robeo. lolrofl!I found this site lookin for the coveted Gern Blanston award. It’s soo0 ‘absolute robeo.’
some of these are answerable questions, some come off as jokes, or rants, while others are simply great questions:
Why are there no “B” batteries?
Why is there only ONE Monopolies Commission?
If someone invented instant water what would they mix it with?
note: gadzillionthings.net was the first site ever (!!!!!!!!) inducted into the prestigous Award Sites Hall of Honor! it is now my goal to be inducted into the Award Sites Halls of Honors!
michael ‘kid’ blount actual became an internet legend thank to his girlfriend-seeking home page, featuring his yearbook picture and looping audio file of his voice! kudoce to michael for his multimedia savvy. i’m sure he has his pick of the litter these days!
this particular site seems to be a faithful recreation of the orig. how wonderful is that???/ make sure you have your speakers on and are using internet explorer (but then switch back to FIREFOX, or use IE Tab only on pc’s).
http://www.geocities.com/TimesSquare/Alley/8973/ DON’T miss the intervew with mana designer ted woolsey. Excerpt:
Brendan McGrath:6) In the Mandala Temple, one of the orbs mentions a country known as Lorima. What is this? My theory is that it is a country that was in the Ice Country, with the Ice Palace as it’s core, until some cataclysm altered the environment. Ted Woolsey:Actually, I forget where Lorima was…sorry!
Great question tho.
fortunecities was more then a webhost, it was a virtual city! take a look at it’s wayback archive to see it slowly transform from adventurous new online world to ordinary hosting service.
here’ is a nice, informative page proving just how useful a defunct homepage still be today. never leave us ‘Maniac Mansion Fan Site,’ we 1.0 love you!!!!!!
not sure what is going on with this page, hasnt been updated since dec 2004
check out “ink” for a list of something
and “thoughts” for a black web–page that looks almost blank unless you highlight the text with your mouses! awesome! now i can read his thoughts!
truly a wierd page and the best part is that there are movie reviews as well! i wish ebert had such an interesting page….
heres a good review:
What’s Eating Gilbert Grape?
This movie is pretty good. I’d give it about a B. Jonny Depp played it very well as did Leonardo DiCaprio in his role as the retarded 17 year old. Surprisingly it was his most realistic role yet. Kinda makes you think… Well, anyway, it’s a good rent.
i guess its pretty good***
a masterpiece of 1.0 design, didik.com showcases the work of Frank Didik, inventor.
electric cars, trans-global highway proposal, early 3d television systems from the 1970s… beautiful.
found this site looking for fiddle lessons.
“ If you and your family can stand hearing something that sounds like a pig hung up in the electric fence, then you are ready to learn the fiddle bluegrass style.”
haaaaaa! the lesson = simple genius. thank you warren! i’m playing along with my favorite music, steady and surely now. but projectsandhobbies.com has sooo much more to offer like ‘how to build a child’s seesaw’ and one lesson in astronomy. plus keen info on ‘how to remember stuff’ and ‘african violets.’ truly a mega site worthy of a full couple days investigation.
